ASTRA Academy · Glossary

Words we use, defined.

Short definitions of the key terms in ASTRA Academy — the programme, the platform, and the way we work together.

AI literacy

AI literacy is the practical capability to use, judge and govern AI in everyday work — knowing what AI is good for, what it isn't, how to prompt and verify, and where the responsible-use boundaries sit.

Data literacy

Data literacy is the capability to read, work with and reason from data — understanding lifecycle and quality, using basic analytics tools confidently, and turning numbers into decisions you can defend.

Capability programme

A capability programme builds an organisation's ability to do specific kinds of work — not a one-off course, but a structured progression with evidence, sponsorship and adoption built in. The aim is capability that compounds, not training that's spent and gone.

Learning intelligence platform

A learning intelligence platform captures what happens across delivery — attendance, confidence movement, blockers, evidence of applied work — and turns it into a clear picture of organisational capability. Distinct from a traditional LMS, which hosts content but doesn't produce intelligence.

Co-design

Co-design means ASTRA works as a joint design team with you. You bring priorities, sponsors, people, real workflows and the decisions; ASTRA brings delivery, content, the platform and AI & data depth. We co-design content rather than deliver to spec.

Wave

A wave is one cycle of the programme — Design, Prepare, Deliver. Each wave is scoped from the evidence the previous wave produced and ends at a sponsor decision gate. The programme is delivered as a sequence of waves rather than a fixed annual syllabus.

Sponsor decision gate

A sponsor decision gate is the formal review point at the end of each wave. It uses the wave's evidence to decide what the next wave should focus on — so investment follows learning, and pre-committed content can be reshaped as the picture clarifies.

Literacy Insight Report

The Literacy Insight and Adaptive Pathway Review is the named reporting deliverable at each sponsor gate. It turns evidence from the wave into sponsor-and-cohort-level insight — capability gaps, recurring blockers and next-wave recommendations — never individual scoring.

Year-2 plan

The Year-2 plan is the named continuity deliverable produced in parallel with the final wave. It hands over a co-designed continuation document — module shortlist, cohort recommendations and indicative cadence — so the programme doesn't end with a cliff edge.

White-label

White-label means the platform runs under your brand and on your domain — your identity throughout, no ASTRA chrome visible. The intent is for the platform to feel like part of your organisation, not a third-party tool.

Sovereign (deployment)

ASTRA Academy Sovereign is the on-premises edition: the same platform run entirely inside your own infrastructure, where your data never leaves your boundary. Built for regulated, sovereignty-bound and IP-sensitive organisations.

Guardrailed AI insight

Guardrailed AI insight is the platform's intelligence layer constrained, in code, to do summaries, theme detection and exec-narrative drafts — and never to score, rank or predict on individuals. A human reviews every insight before it informs a decision.

Clinic

A clinic is a small-group session (capped at around eight people) for applying a technique to your own real work. The format that most reliably turns workshop knowledge into workplace habit, and surfaces the recurring blockers that should shape the next wave.

Roundtable

A roundtable is an invitation-only executive forum with one or two honoured industry guests. Peer-level conversation under Chatham House conventions — used to validate strategic direction, surface blind spots and keep senior sponsorship energised.

Game Day

A Game Day is a co-designed, half-day applied event where cohorts compete on practical AI or data tasks. The format used to turn programme learning into visible organisational behaviour — and to produce evidence at scale for the next wave.
